English: In February I said goodbye to my home, my family, my friends and the whole life that I lived. Together with Andreas, I changed my live from well known and safe in Denmark to an adventure in Vietnam. Many of you have asked how we dared! I think unfortunately, there are many people who go with hidden dreams about what they want to get out of their lives, but the feeling of security and their everyday lifes running day by day, makes it too hard to change.
I have always been the been almost addicted to the feeling of security, but on the other hand it was not difficult for me to do the move. I've always lived by the thoughts of 'what's the worst thing that can happen?' If I can accept the answer to that question, then there is nothing that can hold me back.
This post is not about taking the jump and moving from your home country if that's not what you're dreaming about, but it's about taking your life seriously and it's written for you who's not completely happy with your everyday life and want some change. Here you will find my tips on what you can do to create small or bigger changes in your life.
THE SMALL THINGS
If you feel that you are stuck and you are dreaming of some change in your daily life, it may be a good idea to start with the smaller things.. Can you change the way you get to school or work? Can you wake up an hour earlier and practice yoga every morning? Can you start a food club where you switch to cooking each other a meal once a week? Or maybe you can start playing a new sport?
It does not necessarily have to be big changes like a new job, new boyfriend or moving abroad that is required for a new and more exciting every day life. Try to chance the little things once in a while, so that you make sure that every day, every week and every year does not look exactly the same.
WHAT IS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN?
It's mentioned in my introduction, but it also deserves an independent post. If you are not sure if you should jump into something new, you should always ask yourself what is the worst thing that can happen? If you can accept the answer to that question then there is no need to hold back.
I asked myself the same question, when I got the chance to start my own business doing high school and to run beauty contests in Denmark. I also considered the question when we talked about moving to Vietnam. Only once in my life, the potential consequence has been too big for me to throw myself into the project. At that time I was in a shabby situation, and the question was whether I was going to "bite the sour apple" as we say in Denmark or to hope for the grass to be greener on the other side - but that's another story ;-) The point is that very often the worst thing that can happen, is not so bad.
TALK TO OTHERS
If you not happy with your everyday life or maybe you are just dreaming of something more, then it might be a good idea for you to talk to others about it. There are many people who feels the same way and it will be nice for you to hear that you're not alone. At the same time, it may be a good way to reflect on what it is that you are dissatisfied with.. Perhaps you can also get some inspiration for what others have done when they were in the same situation?
WHAT DOES YOUR GUT TELL YOU?
Have it become clear to you what it is that you are dreaming of or what kind og changes you are looking for, but you are still not sure if you should jump and the the risk? Then you have to feel your body. Go for a long walk or just find a way to spend some time offline, and talk to you self. Try to find out what it means to you and that it is you want the most. Do not thing of other peoples expectations.
